History of the Greenway

The Great Southern & Western Railway route from Killorglin to Valentia Harbour was built in 1893 as an extension of the Farranfore to Killorglin line extending the rail line by 27 miles (43.4 km) to a then impoverished and isolated region which was one of the most remote parts of Ireland with no infrastructure, massive poverty, and hunger.

The South Kerry Railway Route was the most westerly railway line in Europe heading West through what can easily be described as some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery as it climbed through Kerry’s mountainous countryside along the Iveragh Peninsula with views of the Atlantic across the majestic Dingle Bay for over 60 years.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT US!

We decided to just book our bikes online with Kerry Greenway Bike Rentals before we arrived. It was so simple we arrived into Kerry Airport and got a Taxi to The Glenbeigh Hotel where we were staying – picked up our bikes there and headed off around the Ring of Kerry over a few days and back to Glenbeigh. Aoife Jones

Such a great way to see this area, lots of lovely quiet roads off the main track in Mid Kerry. Love these guys as they give the best advice and know all the best places to go. A lunch stop at The Glenbeigh Hotel when dropping back your bike is a must. Jim Bradley
