Cromane
Just over 30 minutes cycle from Glenbeigh along some beautiful quiet roadway is the beautiful fishing village of Cromane. Cromane Peninsula itself protrudes northwards into Castlemaine Harbour with views of Inch Beach and Rossbeigh Peninsula. The Point of Cromane remains one of the few places in Kerry where a 360 view of the Slieve Mish Mountains and the McGillicuddy Reeks.
Take a left when leaving The Glenbeigh Hotel towards Caragh Bridge taking another left sign posted for Dooks Golf Club and continue on this winding quiet road. On route Cromane has some stunning little beaches hidden at Dook and Burketts Cross as well as its beautiful Lough Yganavan home to mute swan and natterjack toads.
Continue until you reach Cromane Church and go straight ahead down the hill to continue onto Cromane Peninsula and “The Point” of Cromane. Here you will pass the famous Jacks Coastguard Restaurant once the old Coastguard Station as well as Cromane Boathouse Cafe, further along you will drive an area steeped in maritime history and salmon fishing as well as one of the purest shellfish ground in Ireland. You will see fishermen going about their business and an abundance of bird life. Definitely a wonderful spot for a day out.
